As a result, the airports bus traffic will drop from 100 diesel buses per hour to 28 hybrid buses per hour. The change is expected to decrease shuttle bus vehicle miles at the airport by 70 percent, with an accompanying 35 percent decrease in airport-related emissions, the agency said. Massport says the new bus system will also reduce curbside congestion because departing passenger will be dropped off on the upper level of their airlines terminal, where they can go directly to ticketing, baggage drop and security.
